Six Weeks a Jesuit

Location:
Bronx, NY; Manhattan, NY; and Jersey City, NJ.
 
Participants: "Six Weeks a Jesuit" is open to men who have maintained contact with their vocation director and are currently discerning a possible call to the Society of Jesus. Participants must be willing to commit themselves to a summer of serious and intentional prayer, work, reflection and fun.

  • ORIENTATION (June 20-22) - Participants will gather at the Ciszek Hall Jesuit Community in the Bronx on Friday evening, June 20th. During the weekend orientation, facilitators will discuss details about the apostolates, living in Jesuit community and expectations for prayer. There will also be time for reflection, prayer, and relaxation.
  • COMMUNITY - During the program participants will live in a Jesuit community in Manhattan or the Bronx where they will participate in Jesuit life, ministry and prayer. They will also receive a small stipend.
  • APOSTOLIC EXPERIENCES - The apostolic experiences of the summer involve working with economically challenged middle school students in a Higher Achievement Program (HAP) or a Nativity model middle school summer program.
  • CONFERENCES - Each week participants will gather for a conference designed to illuminate different aspects of Jesuit life. Topics for these conferences will include Ignatian prayer and discernment and other topics of interest to men in discernment.
  • FAITH SHARING - Participants will gather for weekly faith sharing coordinated by the program facilitators.
  • REFLECTION - During the Six Weeks, there will be regular times for prayer, sharing and socializing with Jesuits and the other participants in the program. There will also be one weekend set aside for retreat and reflection upon experience. Finally, the program will conclude with a weekend of sharing and evaluation for all participants.
