Final Vows

After the tertianship period, the Jesuit is called to final vows in the Society of Jesus, which for some includes a Fourth Vow of Obedience to the Pope with Regard to Missions.

Decree Four of G.C. 35 describes it this way:

Ignatius and the First Companions offered themselves to the Vicar of Christ to be sent on mission out of a "desire to serve the Church in the most beneficial way possibe." By means of the fourth vow pronounced by the professed, the whole body of the Society puts itself at the disposition of the ministry of the Successor of Peter "for distribution into the vineyard of Christ our Lord." In this way, we achieve availability to the divine will and offer the Church better service.
