Fr. Joseph Sands, SJ

Fr. Joseph Sands, SJ, (MAR) lives in the Bronx, NY and, since 2010, is Rector of Ciszek Hall where he accompanies the Jesuit scholastics and brothers who are completing their program of First Studies at Fordham University.
Prior to moving to the Bronx he was a member of the Jesuit Mission in the Brazilian Amazon Region. He lived in the city of Manaus and taught at the University of Amazonas, was an assistant pastor of the Jesuit parish, and served as a chaplain at both the city jail and the children’s hospital.
Fr. Sands earned a bachelor’s degree in Government and Law from Lafayette College, a master’s degree in Divinity from Boston College School of Theology and Ministry, and a doctorate from the Politics Department at Princeton University.
Fr. Sands has also taught at Colegio San Mateo in Osorno, Chile and was a member of the Political Science Department at Santa Clara University. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1981 and was ordained a priest in 1992.
