THREE JESUITS PROFESS FIRST VOWS
The Jesuits of the Maryland, New York and New England Provinces, giving thanks to God, announce that their brothers (l. to r.) Benjamin Brenkert, SJ (NYK), Mark Fusco, SJ (MAR) and Kevin Spinale, SJ (NEN), professed First Vows on Saturday, August 11, 2007, at the Madonna della Strada Panasci Family Chapel of LeMoyne College, Syracuse, New York.

 


Meet the 2007 Jesuit Vow Men:


 

Benjamin J. Brenkert, SJ
Ben, 27, is from Valley Stream, NY where he was an active member of the parish community at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament. He holds a BA in American studies and history and a minor in philosophy from Marist College and earned an MA in humanities from Hofstra University. Ben has worked for St. Ignatius Retreat House, Marist College Campus Ministry, the NY Historical Society and Senator Hillary R. Clinton. During his long experiment, Ben taught, worked in Campus Ministry and coached baseball at St. Peter's Prep in Jersey City, NJ. After vows, he will begin First Studies at St. Louis University as a member of the Bellarmine House of Studies. (NYK)


 

Mark P. Fusco, SJ
Mark, 42, has a BA in religious studies and English literature from the University of Toronto, an MA in theology from Yale, and an STL in moral theology from John Paul II Institute. Prior to entering the novitiate, Mark taught high school English in Washington, DC and was headmaster of a high school in New England. A native of Oshawa, Canada, he has traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada. Mark is a sports enthusiast and practices martial arts. During his long experiment, Mark worked at the Jesuit Conference in Washington, DC. He will begin First Studies in the fall at Loyola University, Chicago. (MAR)


 

Kevin C. Spinale, SJ
Kevin, 28, is a graduate of Boston College High School and has a BA in classics from Holy Cross College and an MA in Teaching English as a Second Language from Columbia Teachers College. He taught ESL in Brooklyn and served with the Peace Corps in Romania. He enjoys travel and has a particular interest in political science and journalism. Golf and rugby are his games. Kevin spent his long experiment working at his high school alma mater. After vows, he will begin First Studies at Regis College in Toronto, Canada. (NEN)
