We are pleased to announce that Fathers Timothy B. Brown, SJ, and Gerald J. Chojnacki, SJ, Provincials of Maryland and New York, have accepted the nine men below into the Jesuit Novitiate of St. Andrew Hall, Syracuse, New York. Entrance Day will be Saturday, August 23, 2008.

(Please note that the New England Province will announce the acceptance of its candidates after Entrance Day in August.)

Ricardo Avila

Ricardo N. Avila

Ricardo, 31, is an attorney who worked as a litigation associate and corporate associate at separate firms in NYC. In 1999, he received a B.A. in political science and Latin American studies from the University of Chicago, and in 2002, a J.D. from Yale Law School. Ricardo most recently worked as assistant director of admissions and as an academic support tutor at Cristo Rey New York High School. Originally from El Paso, TX, Ricardo is also interested in stand-up comedy and motorcycles. (NYK)

Kirk Boyle

Kirk D. Boyle
Dallas, TX
Kirk, 30, is an attorney, having worked most recently at the firm of Carrington, Coleman, Sloman & Blumenthal in Dallas, TX. He received his B.S. in foreign service from Georgetown University in 1999 and his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 2007. Prior to entering law school, Kirk worked as a Floor Assistant for the House Majority Leader and Majority Whip in the U.S. Congress. Kirk was also an Augustinian Volunteer and was part of a Congressional delegation to Asia, South America, Europe and the Middle East. (MAR)

Kevin Hughes

Kevin C. Hughes
Cherry Hill, NJ
Kevin, 22, is a 2004 graduate of St. Joseph's Prep in Philadelphia and a 2008 graduate of LaSalle University, with a B.A. in biology and a minor in philosophy. While attending LaSalle, Kevin was an active member of University Ministry and Service. During high school he volunteered for the Food Bank of South Jersey. His eclectic work experience includes that of bicycle mechanic, cashier, customer service associate and resident assistant. Kevin's other interests include playing the bagpipes, cooking, fishing and bike riding. (MAR)

Brian Konzman Brian G. Konzman
Carbondale, PA
Brian, 21, is an alumnus of Scranton Preparatory School and a 2008 graduate of Scranton University, with a B.S. in chemistry and philosophy, and minors in German and Greek. His other fields of interest include political science and economics. While attending Scranton, Brian worked as a resident assistant, chemistry research assistant and peer tutor. He also made a service trip to Ecuador and volunteered with Lackawanna Pro Bono. Brian enjoys biking and reading. (MAR)

Vincent Marchionni

Vinny, 22, is an alumnus of St. Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia and a 2008 graduate of St. Joseph's University with a B.A. in history and a minor in theology. He is a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and has volunteered for the Adopt-a-Pop program of the Maryland Province Infirmary. His interests include the Philadelphia Eagles football team and heavy metal music. (MAR)

Richard Nichols Richard H. Nichols III
Washington, DC
Rick, 31, is a 1994 graduate of Loyola Blakefield and a 1998 graduate of the College of Holy Cross, Worcester, MA, with a B.A. in mathematics and a minor in Russian. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years as Division Offer on a nuclear-powered fast-attack submarine and as a Collection Guidance Officer for a classified Navy program. While in the Navy, Rick traveled to Asia, Europe, the Middle East and South America. Most recently he was a seminarian in the Archdiocese of Washington, DC. Rick enjoys literature and running. (MAR)

Patrick Nolan

Patrick, 29, is a sponsorship manager at Mastercard working on the NFL and MLB marketing platforms. A native of Massapequa, NY, Patrick is a graduate of Loyola College in Maryland with a B.A. in history and a minor in business. Patrick studied at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia in his junior year and served as Senior Class President in 2001. He currently serves as a board member of the Loyola College Alumni NYC and is a member of the Ignatian Young Adults Planning Committee at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, NY. Patrick is a five-time NYC marathon finisher (2003-07). (NYK)

Timothy W. O'Brien
King of Prussia, PA
Tim, 24 graduated from the College of the Holy Cross (Worcester, MA) in 2006 with a B.A. in political science and a concentration in Latin American studies. During the summer of 2004, he lived and studied in Valparaíso, Chile. Since graduation, Tim has worked as a Civil Rights Division Paralegal in the U.S. Department of Justice. He is currently a catechist at Holy Trinity Parish in Washington, D.C. Besides travel, Tim also enjoys cooking. (MAR)

David Rimshnick

David, 25, is a sales and marketing consultant in the pharmaceutical industry. He holds a B.S. and an M.S. in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering from Cornell University. His other interests include economics, computer science and applied mathematics. In addition to academic pursuits, David also enjoys tennis, golf and fishing. He has recently worked with the youth and young adult groups at St. Paul's Church in Princeton, NJ. (NYK)
